40354 joined my collection on 2 January 2021; I bought it directly from LEGO just after New Year’s Eve. It’s a set from 2019, BrickHeadz number 80, whose Polish name translates as “Boy Dancing the Dragon Dance”. LEGO released it with Chinese New Year in mind, and it’s a classic take on the traditional performance in which the performer dances with a dragon’s head raised above him, surrounded by red lanterns. I’ve already written about the series of sets inspired by Chinese traditions in the post on 40381 Monkey King, and this is exactly the same thematic line.
| Release year | 2019 |
| BrickHeadz numbers | 80 |
| Number of figures | 1 |
| Number of pieces | 170 |
| In my collection | Yes, since 2 January 2021 |
The build itself was enjoyable and went smoothly: 170 pieces come together in a dozen or so minutes, but the end result is much more interesting than the piece count would suggest. The dragon’s head came out best, with its gold and red accents. On both sides of the figure stand red lanterns on separate stands, so it immediately becomes a mini scene rather than a single character. On my shelf it stands near 40381 Monkey King, and you can see that the two figures go together really well.
