75317: The Mandalorian & The Child

Set number 75317 is exceptionally good-looking, but it also has several unique features that make it stand out in the BrickHeadz series.

I’ll start with something entirely personal. As I wrote in the article about the story of my collection, I made my first BrickHeadz purchase on 2 January 2021 and went all in, buying more than a dozen sets in one go. What I didn’t write there, though, is that the spark that led to it was exactly the set I’m describing here. It all started with this one; it was what made me take a closer look at the series.

Focusing on its more objective strengths, though, it has to be said that every unusual BrickHeadz set catches the eye because it stands out from the crowd. This time is no different, thanks to the Grogu figure. It’s hard to walk past it indifferently; I enjoyed building it and it still stands out on my shelf all the time.

Another distinguishing feature of this set is that, unlike the other BrickHeadz, it isn’t available only through exclusive distribution. This is something I only noticed after a while, but these figures really can be found in ordinary shops, supermarkets and so on. I don’t know why that is. Is it the result of some unusual licensing agreement? We’ll probably never find out, but it explains why we have such an unusual LEGO number (all the “normal” BH have numbers starting with 40 or 41).

The length of time this set has been available is also exceptional. It was released in August 2020, and as I write these words (March 2023) the set is still available to buy, whether on lego.com or in other shops. I’m not checking right now whether it’s a record, but it’s certainly an exceptionally long time for the BrickHeadz series. The latest rumour is that the set will be available until the end of 2023.

Finally, there’s the undeniable fact that the set was certainly helped by the good reviews of the series on which these figures are based. What’s more, this is Star Wars, a franchise that enjoys unflagging popularity, and there are many fans who bought this set not because it’s BH, but because it shows characters from this particular universe. I’m convinced that all of this is visible in the sales figures, and we can back it up with the number of reviews of this set on lego.com. Most BH sets have fewer than 30 reviews, often far fewer or none at all. Here, meanwhile, there are over 70 reviews and a good rating of 4.7. The statistics also look good on brickset.com, where at the time of writing this set has the best ownership figure in the whole series. Almost 17.5 thousand people have declared that they own it. Second in this ranking, set 40274 Mr. & Mrs. Claus can boast just under 9.2 thousand owners, so the difference is huge.

To sum up, set number 75317 has certainly found many happy buyers and stands out from other BrickHeadz for several specific reasons. It’s sets like this that keep bringing new fans to our favourite series.
