I bought the Birthday Clown, BrickHeadz number 92 from 2019, on 2 January 2021. The set debuted at the start of 2019 and stayed on sale until the end of 2022, so I had plenty of time to add it to my collection without racing the clock. It’s a Mel Caddick design and one of the classic occasion-themed BrickHeadz, which LEGO placed in the Seasonal category alongside Easter chicks, Halloween ghosts and Valentine’s animals. 150 pieces, one figure, and a base with a cake, balloons and a sign reading Happy Birthday.

Building the clown took me just under half an hour and was particularly enjoyable, because instead of one dominant colour you get a whole palette: a light blue body, white hands and orange hair poking out from under a green cone hat. What gave me the most joy was the cake itself with a single candle, a small idyllic scene. The balloons and the little themed extras are the details that convinced me this set isn’t just another number in the line.
