Although I can certainly call myself a fan of the LEGO BrickHeadz series, I’ve rarely counted down the days to a set’s release. This time was different: the set from the Avatar universe appealed to me straight away, and I happily turned up at the LEGO Store to get it on 1 October 2022.
This set is unique in many ways. Firstly, an iron rule of BrickHeadz was broken and the Jake Sully figure is taller than the series’ accepted standard. Until now (leaving aside animals, hair, hats, the tall head on the Frankenstein model and so on) this was done probably only twice, with both Hagrid models from Harry Potter. The same enlarged arm arrangement was used here as well.

Secondly, for the first time we have a seated human character. Of course, how could it be otherwise; anyone who has seen the film (are there people who haven’t?) can’t imagine any other option, but it shows that the designers at LEGO had to find new methods to meet new needs in a form as small as BrickHeadz.
Thirdly, for the first time we have a movable model, namely the Jake figure. This has never happened before, and in my opinion it brings great freshness while still fitting the whole series perfectly.
BrickHeadz are evolving in a direction that makes me extremely happy. It is still the same good series, and at the same time the designers manage to bring interesting ideas to life. After LEGO wore us out with all those animal figures (I’m not a keen fan of them; I think that, with minor exceptions, they are the weakest part of the whole series), everything is now back on track, and with original ideas right away.
