Marcos Bessa answers questions about BrickHeadz

At LEGO, Marcos Bessa is directly responsible for the BrickHeadz series. His statements never give away the future, but you can learn a lot of interesting facts from him, especially when we’re looking for information about the history of BrickHeadz. Less than a year ago Marcos answered questions from Internet users in his Q&A session, which I’ve just come across. There were really only three questions that might interest us, so I’m presenting all of them below.

One Internet user asked Marcos what his favourite BrickHeadz set is. Marcos answered with a photo of the much-lamented set number 57.
The second question, very similar to the first, was about his favourite set that Marcos designed himself. We got a very diplomatic answer that he loves all his “children” equally, and along the way he promoted set number 40367.
The last question is the most interesting and concerns whether the team responsible for BrickHeadz had thought about modifying the series so that the figures would have moving parts such as the head or arms. Marcos admits that they did indeed think about it, but licensing restrictions got in the way. At least some of the figures wouldn’t be able to move. I guess this would have caused a lot of complaints and disappointment among customers. LEGO decided it was better to avoid that. At the same time, Marcos suggests in his answer that, luckily, LEGO is very easy to modify 😉 I admit that I once asked myself the very same question, and at last it’s clear why the series didn’t go in that direction. Companies write such restrictions into licensing agreements so that a given figure can’t serve as a typical toy, which in these companies’ view could cannibalise their other products and agreements.

And that’s about it 😉 It wasn’t a very interesting Q&A from the perspective of BrickHeadz fans, but it’s still worth noting. To be honest, reading and watching various materials featuring Marcos, I get the impression that he isn’t particularly in love with this series and isn’t its ambassador to the extent he could be.
